New Inn

The New Inn was the first purpose-built pub in Whitstable, constructed in the 1830s when the railway opened. The surrounding terraces housed dockers, railway workers and fishermen and the pub continues to this day to be a down-to-earth, unpretentious place with a friendly atmosphere.

Featured in the Good Beer Guide, The New Inn is known by locals as a comfortable place to meet up for a chat and a decent pint without the intrusion of loud music or Sky TV - enlivened by occasional visits from celebrities such as Jarvis Cocker.

Traditionally furnished and spacious with cosy fire place and stove, customers enjoy regular quiz nights, pool, darts and dominoes. The separate dining area, The Snug Restaurant, provides all the traditional pub-food favourites.

The coin-studded ceiling dates from the days when regular customers were paid piecework. After a good day workers would stick coins to the ceiling to buy pints for their mates.
